    QUESTIONS ANSWERED...

How much does a tractor repair in San Diego cost?

    Answer...

That depends on the what kind of tractor problem or failure is going on, and therefore, what kind of tractor repair will be needed.  It also depends on how long a tractor has been driven with the problem.

Some examples of tractor repair quotes- a blown hydraulic hose is around twenty bucks.  A thrown rod is tens of thousands.  Hopefully, the repair or maintenance that you need is much less than that, especially for San Diego county.

Most of our customers' tractor repairs will run between the two, running a couple hundred (average) to a few hundred dollars (big jobs on big machines!).  One thing is for sure: because we are a mobile tractor repair service, you don't have to pay to tow or load and haul your tractor to us.  Furthermore, repairing your John Deere, Kubota or Massey Ferguson is way cheaper than buying a new one, or the cost of lost productivity while the tractor is out of order.

Furthermore, I promise you, you'll be glad you gave us a call.  From what our customers tell us, our pricing is not only extremely fair, our service is top-notch and reliable.  We're not going to leave you hanging (like we've heard others sometimes do).  And, if for some strange (and rare) reason we can't help you, we'll refer you to someone who can.  We care about quality and getting the job done as much as you do!

    Are tractors difficult to repair?

    Answer...

This is a great question!  We love repairing tractors because we're familiar with them, and love the puzzle of how to repair them and get them purring again!
It really does vary widely, depending on the model and the problem to repair.  Sometimes, when a customer has called, we give them a few simple repairs to try first (before they even spend any money with our mobile tractor repair service), because sometimes the fix is simple.   In my opinion, tractors are a little easier to repair than cars. This is because the parts are more straight-forward and accessible, and generally-speaking, have less electronics that tie in to every part. But again, this too varies by model of tractor. One of the harder repairs for many farm tractors is replacing or repairing a drive train component that lies between the engine and transmission. This could be the clutch, torque converter, rear seal, or flywheel. This is because many tractors are built without a full-length frame. So, the engine crankcase, clutch housing, etc. are all structural and bolted to each other. This means that to replace one of the components mentioned, for some models you actually have to split the tractor into two pieces. Yes, splitting the front half and the back half. You then must support both halves by blocks, stands or jacks, etc. One half- usually the front half- is rolled away from the other half in order to remove & replace the clutch or other component. Needless to say, this is a tricky procedure and must be done with diligent safety practices in mind.  This is Not Easy, and should be done with help and knowledge of what you're doing.  Failure to properly support one part of the tractor can result in it crashing down! This can lead to death or serious injury to the mechanic, or breaking of heavy castings and other costly tractor parts. But, if that doesn't scare you off, I've always found tractors to be generally simpler to work on than cars.  Plus, since tractors perform such cool and heavy-lifting services than cars do, in a way, it's far more satisfying to be able to repair a tractor!

5 Farm Tractor Maintenance Tips For Summer and Beyond

tractor repair san diegoFor most farmers, summer is an ideal time to maintain and repair equipment- like your tractor- for another season. This includes tractor maintenance, like routine inspections, major repairs or replacements. Even with dependable tractors, you still need to make sure all the parts are working well.

Over time, batteries corrode; fluids seep into the engine and wear-and-tear will happen. When doing maintenance on your tractor, don’t overlook these issues if you want it to work all season.

Here are 5 basic tractor maintenance tips to consider.

    1. Fill the Tank With New Fuel

Drain any leftover fuel inside it from the winter months and refill the tank with a fresh supply. This reduces possible condensation buildup in the engine, which leads to smoother running. And while you’re checking the fuel quality, it’s also a smart idea to check the other fluid levels, too. Where needed, add more coolant, engine or hydraulic oil. This keeps the transmission lubricated; reduces moisture and protects the engine from overheating.

    2. Inspect and Clean the Battery

When the tractor has been idle for an long time, the battery will often discharge. This can overtax the alternator and, in some cases, lead to engine failure. If the battery juices are low, revive them with a high-powered charger. Also, examine the electrical connections for fractures, grease residue or corrosion. Give them a thorough cleaning if needed. When the battery is functioning well, it takes stress off the alternator. This allows it to maintain a full charge while the tractor is operational.

    3. Assess Tire Condition

Inspect for cracks in the rubber and ensure the air pressure is at a consistent level. If the pressure gauge is low, then inflate the tire with a compression machine. If there is significant wear, you should consider replacing one or more of the tires. The investment of keeping your tractor mobile will be worth avoiding the safety hazard of a flat tire—or even worse, a complete blowout.

    4. Sharpen Blade Attachments

Tractor maintenance doesn’t just apply to the vehicle, but also to the attachment pieces. This is especially true if the tractor doubles as a lawn mower. Blades can become dull or rusty over time, so it’s important to clean and sharpen it on a regular basis. This upkeep is simple and only requires detaching the blade and using a grinder to polish the blunt edge. If you don’t own a grinding wheel, you can have it sharpened at an automotive repair or hardware store. But if the blade is no longer functional, swap it for a new attachment.

    5. Check Belts fo Cracking

To ensure greatest longevity of a tractor, it’s crucial for the drive belts to be in working order. After-all, the machine relies on its belts to power all internal functions.  Belt damage can affect the alternator, hydraulic pumps, battery charge, cutting blades, and other features too. Examine the belts for weather abrasion, rotting, slippage, and malfunctioning. Replace them if necessary. In most cases, you can do this manually. But, if they’re in extremely rough shape, you might need professional help.

Even if you don't use the tractor as much during the summer doesn’t mean it requires less attention and care.  Investing in the quality maintenance and repair of your tractor now can save you time, money and frustration in the long-term.
